Installation of "Staying Connected: A Drawing Improvisation"

Smith College, December, 08 - January, 09

"Staying Connected" was a completely improvised drawing based on the way in which the Oresman Gallery at Smith presented itself.

The tools I needed to use to do the work were pencils and the memory of a unique straight-line and cross-hatch drawing combination. The proportions of the drawing, both in the ways in which the lines are drawn and the overall size of the drawing, are based on my height and arm span and their impact on the gallery. The employment of those measurements goes back to a 1971 installation at California Institute of the Arts.

Staying Connected was dedicated to
the memory of my friend and mentor, Sol Lewitt (1928-2007).
